However, a significant shortage of information exists concerning reproductive biology, egg formation, and larval development. This study, being the first of its kind, provided a complete account of G. brasiliensis spawning, eggs, larvae, and mouth size characteristics in captivity. A total of six spawning events resulted in egg masses comprising 27 eggs, 127 eggs, 600 eggs, 750 eggs, 850 eggs, and 950 eggs. Egg masses of larger size exhibited embryos displaying at least two distinct developmental stages. Eggs, in a spherical shape (10mm diameter), are held together through the entanglement of chorionic projections with filaments. Larvae, less than 12 hours post-hatching, presented a standard length of 355 mm, fully developed eyes, complete yolk sac absorption, an inflated swim bladder, and a visible opened mouth. At 12 hours post-hatching, the process of exogenous feeding, specifically on rotifers, initiated. The average mouth width observed during the first feeding was 0.38 millimeters. A settled larva, the first observed, was noted on day 21. This information provides the foundation for establishing appropriate diets and prey-switching schedules during the larval cultivation of this species.
