Health organizations consistently work toward justice in healthcare, yet discrimination in healthcare continues to be a major obstacle in reaching this critical goal. Subsequently, a profound knowledge of discriminatory actions within the healthcare sector, and the formulation of strategies to counteract them, is crucial. This study investigated and characterized the diverse experiences of discrimination reported by nurses in the healthcare profession.
The present study, a qualitative content analysis, was carried out using data from the years 2019 and 2020. Semi-structured interviews were employed to gather data from 18 individuals, specifically two physicians, three nursing supervisors, two head nurses, four clinical nurses, two nursing assistants, and three hospitalized patients, across a public and a private hospital in Tehran. Continuing purposive sampling of participants until data saturation was reached, ensured the representativeness of the sample. The Graneheim and Lundman method was employed to analyze the collected data.
Four overarching categories and fourteen specific subcategories resulted from the data analysis: 1) habitual discrimination (everyday discrimination within healthcare environments, dismissal of patient rights, and low confidence in medical professionals); 2) interpersonal connections (expectations of associates, respect amongst colleagues and friends, the potential for analogous situations, and reciprocity of favors); 3) healthcare resource limitations (shortages of medical equipment, high workload, deficiencies in healthcare infrastructure, and restricted access to physicians); and 4) favoritism (ethnic bias, favoritism as a common practice, and favoritism as a perceived solution to healthcare issues).
The research unveiled specific dimensions of discrimination in healthcare, a phenomenon that remains often unaddressed in quantitative research approaches. Health system managers are poised to progress toward the elimination of discrimination in healthcare. In light of the findings, the development of robust models to minimize discriminatory practices in healthcare, based on the central ideas of this study, is recommended.

The application of technology is central to e-assessment, enabling the creation, delivery, collection, and feedback provision to students. The present research seeks to unravel the essence of online assessment, including student preferences for overcoming challenges faced, and approaches to facilitate improvement.
Fifty-six undergraduate medical students participated in a cross-sectional, descriptive study, during which 45 objective structured practical examinations (OSPEs) were administered in the field of anatomy. Feedback collection, after the assessment, was conducted using a questionnaire comprised of fifteen items. To graphically represent the responses, a five-point Likert scale was employed for evaluation, and Microsoft Excel was used.
The feedback process resulted in these responses. Pictures of dissected specimens, featuring highlighted pointers and markers, used in the exam, were deemed clear and well-oriented by 77% of respondents. The pointers and markers, integral to the specimens, were found clear and easily identifiable by 79% of the participants. 66% of respondents preferred the traditional assessment method to the online version, while 48% were undecided about whether e-assessment enhances knowledge and skills. The students' collective preference leaned toward the traditional method of assessment in comparison with the online one.
While online methods may not completely supplant traditional methods of teaching and assessment, technology can be used to augment the learning experience and create improved outcomes. Students benefit from early and regular formative assessments, allowing teachers to identify and address areas of deficiency in their learning. Formative assessment and regular practice can be seamlessly integrated with e-assessment due to its straightforward administration and concurrent feedback mechanisms.
Traditional methods of teaching and evaluation, although essential, cannot be completely superseded by online approaches; however, technology can be used to augment the existing structure and yield better outcomes. Regular early formative assessments enable teachers to identify areas where students are lacking and guide them toward improvement. The ease of administration and synchronized feedback delivery in e-assessment make it well-suited for the integration into formative assessment and repeated practice activities.
